Instruction to Authors

Submission Process: Submit your article by electronic submission via the journal web site URL: https://nmcjournal.zums.ac.ir/. Each submission must be accompanied by a Cover Letter to the Editor-in-Chief and include the Title and author(s) name/s and the undertaking that it has not been published or submitted elsewhere. In case the manuscript was submitted to another Journal earlier and rejected, the authors must provide full information for proper analysis. Manuscripts should be typed as double-spaced on an A4 size paper with clear 1-inch margins on both sides. Tables and Figures should be sent on separate file. Do not submit Tables as photographs.

In case of the electronic submission, the authors must declare that the manuscript is being exclusively contributed to: Preventive Care in Nursing & Midwifery Journal. The text should be submitted in a Microsoft Word format as an attachment. The Figures should be sent in JPEG or GIF formats for producing high quality images in the online edition of the Journal. Submission is also acceptable via the Journal URL: https://nmcjournal.zums.ac.ir/.

The manuscript should include: Title Page; Abstract; Introduction; Materials & Methods; Results; Discussion; Acknowledgement Conflicts of interest; Funding and References.

The Title Page: All submissions require a Title Page composed of the complete title of the manuscript, the full names of all the authors, with their highest academic degrees, the department or institution with which they are affiliated with and a full address for corresponding author, cooperation level, telephone and Fax numbers, as well as an e-mail address. it is impossible to change the author’s name(s) and names order after submission.

Abstract: An abstract of 250 words should be provided to state the reason for the study, the main findings and the conclusions drawn from the observation. It should be structured in 4 labeled paragraphs as Background, objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusion, and include 3 to 5 Keywords at the bottom. Keywords will assist indexers in cross indexing the article as they are published with abstract. Use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of index medicus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html). Authors need to take care that the abstract reflects the content of the article accurately.

Case report articles are included unorganized abstract up to 100 words (Persian and English), Key words, Introduction, Case report & conclusion.

Article Body

The rest of the article differs according to the article type you are submitting but generally includes the following headings: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and References.

Introduction: This section should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should neither review the subject extensively nor should it contain any data or conclusions.

Methods: This should include exact method or observation or experiment. If adevice is used, its manufacturer’s name and City should be given in parenthesis. If the method is established, give a reference and a brief description. However, if the method is new, give enough information so that another author is able to perform it. If a drug is used, its generic name, dose, and route of administration must be given. Statistical method/s must be mentioned and data analysis software must be specified. The Consort flowchart diagram is required for clinical tials.

The standard  research reporting guidelines is available on The EQUATOR Network (www.equator-network.org).

Results: It must be presented in the form of text, tables and illustrations. The contents of the tables should not be all repeated in the text. Instead, a reference to the table number may be given. Long articles may need sub-headings within some sections (especially the Results and Discussion parts) to clarify their contents.

Discussion: This section should emphasize the present findings and the variations or similarities with other works done in the field. The first paragraph should discuss about the main subject(s) directly.  The details of the data should not be repeated in the discussion section again. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis mentioned in the article is either true or false, or that no conclusion can be derived.

Acknowledgement: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgement section. It should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance, and departmental head/s that only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.

Conflicts of interest: Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not necessarily lead to rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.

Funding:

Detailed information regarding all financial and material support for the research and work Not limited to grant support, funding sources, and provision of equipment and supplies.

Example:

Tables: Should be submitted in limited numbers with the captions placed above. Avoid submitting Tables as photograph. Place explanatory matters in the footnotes, not the heading. Tables in the word file should be separated by page break (each table in a separate page). Each Table should have borders with normal style without any colored row or column. The style of table should be simple. Each cell contains only one paragraph or one line.

Figures: Should be in limited numbers, with high quality art work and mounted on separate pages. The Figure legends and captions should be placed below. The same data should not be presented in Tables, Figures and the body text simultaneously. Authors should declare in the cover letter that all figures of their manuscripts are original, otherwise the original source of figures should be mentioned and reprint form must be uploaded in the attachments. Scanned graph from other resources will not be accepted to publish. All Figures should be in the form of PNG (png) or JPG (.jpg). The raw data of the charts should be uploaded in Microsoft excel format (MS Office 1997-2003). Please scan all images in at least 300 dpi. We will NOT accept any images with resolution below 300 dpi.

References:

All manuscripts should be accompanied by relevant references. References should be in the Vancouver style and numbered in the order in which they first appear in the manuscript. Titles of the journals should be abbreviated according to the Index Medicus style . The authors should ensure reference to locally published studies by doing a proper literature search, as it may not be possible for the editor and reviewers to check the accuracy of all reference citations. To minimize such errors authors should verify references against the original documents. Writing references as an Endnote or Mendeley file will be considered as an advantage when submitting a manuscript.

The Reference list should provide the following information as stated in the presented models as follows:

In-Text References

In the Vancouver system, the only indication required in the text of a paper is a number, allocated in ascending sequence, and presented in the text either in brackets, some or in superscript. For example:
"Recent randomized controlled trials in primary care showed benefits for patients with depression from increased telephone support, better cooperation between primary care and mental health professionals, and more systematic follow up [7]."

If the same source is cited again later in the text, the same number is used once more. If multiple references are cited, use a hyphen to join an inclusive range of numbers thus: 2-5. Use commas without spaces to separate non-inclusive numbers in a multiple citation thus: 2-5,7,10.

If you can't find out who wrote the book or article you want to reference, begin the entry with the title. Do not use either "Anonymous" or "anon".

Reports which are not the responsibility of one individual should be listed under the name of the body responsible for their publication.

Will be supplied with 1 free issue and a set of Reprints.

Ethical guidelines:

Ethical considerations must be addressed in the Materials & Methods section. 1) Please state that informed consent was obtained from all human adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors. Include the name of the appropriate institutional review board that approved the project. 2) Indicate in the text that the maintenance and care of experimental animals complies with National Institutes of Health guidelines for the humane use of laboratory animals, or those of your Institute or agency.

Clinical Trial Registration
We require that clinical trials are prospectively registered in a publicly accessible database and clinical trial registration numbers should be included in all papers that report their results. Please include the name of the trial register and your clinical trial registration number in title page and in manuscript acknowledgment.

If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions, it will be scheduled for the next available issue.

Disposal of material:

Once published, all doucuments of the artictes, correspondence, and artwork will be held for 6 months before disposal.

The Final Checklist

The authors must ensure that before submitting the manuscript for publication, they have taken care of the following:

2.Abstract in Structured format up to 250 words.

3.References mentioned as stated in the Instruction to Authors section.

4.Tables should be sent on separate pages.

5.Make sure for Headings of Tables, their numbers and Captions of Figures. Don’t repeat the information in Tables if it is covered in the text.

6.Photographs / illustrations along with their captions.

7.Article submitted with 5 copies.

8.Letter of Undertaking signed by all of the authors.

9.Disclosure regarding source of funding and conflicts of interest if any besides approval of the study from respective Ethics Committee/Institution Review Board.
